Historic Preservation Department
Historic preservation is a professional endeavor that seeks to preserve, conserve and protect buildings, landscapes or other artifacts of historic significance. As you might imagine, Historic Preservation is a very interdisciplinary field, incorporating more than just architecture and design. These fields include conservation science, photography, engineering, urban planning, law, history and politics. At Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design, you will be exposed to a range of these disciplines and perspectives in your core content classes, during field trips, and through our vast array of internship experiences. We have a licensed Architect on staff, trained and experienced professionals in the fields of physics and engineering, and trained visual artists with experience in architecture and design, teaching our historic preservation classes. All of our Historic Preservation teachers participate in ongoing Professional Development from New Jersey Institute of Technology. All students, as part of their Historic Preservation 4-year course sequence, will take the following courses:
Year 1: Architectural Drafting and Auto CAD I
Year 2: Architectural Design and Building Materials I
Year 3: Architectural Design and Building Materials II
Year 4: Portfolio Development and Post-Secondary Planning
