How is your grade determined?

30% Exams - given approximately once every three weeks

20% Quizzes - Daily. Major quizzes (mid chapter) are given approximately once per ten days. STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING UP A MAJOR QUIZ OR EXAM. You will receive a zero if you miss a major quiz or test & do not make it up. PLEASE check in with your Algebra teacher if you are absent!

You start the semester with a 10 out of 20 and increase up to 2 points per week. You may also lose points for not doing or correcting in class quizzes.

20% Classwork - at the beginning of the marking period, you have 20 points. If you are absent & do not make up work, you lose a point. Late to class? Lose 1/2 point. Off task? Lose up to a point. Poor notes on the days that we collect? Lose points. You will receive a 0 if you miss a day’s work & do not make it up. PLEASE check in with your Algebra teacher if you are absent!

20% Corrections and Performance Tasks- Writing assignments and long answer questions that will be assigned in class and/or as take home assessments. Corrections to major quizzes and Exams also fall into this category.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECTING QUIZZES AND TESTS:

(if you follow these directions, you will get ALL your points back!)

·        Leave your original answer on test. Highlight correct answer next to it.

·        Place heading on looseleaf. Topic: Corrections

·        Number your paper and paraphrase (write in short form) incorrect questions.

·        Highlight correct answer on the looseleaf

·     MOST IMPORTANTLY: Explain your error and what math you learned   from your mistake. Show all work! The goal of the correction is to never make this type of mistake again (especially on a test:)

·        Staple looseleaf to original test and turn in by due date.

10% Homework - at the beginning of the marking period, you have 0 points. Each video note cluster you do is worth 1 point; that means all the videos in 3-1, for example. SEE STUDENT RESOURCES AFTER LOGGING INTO ONLINE TEXTBOOK! Or, ask your teacher to make photocopies of the review sets that you want to do!

Each regular review homework worth one point; SEE CLASS PAGES/ VIDEO TUTORS PERIOD 5.

Homework is accepted anytime within the marking period, up to five days before closing date. If you wish to review certain topics, you should make an appointment with your teacher so that she can assign additional review sets from the (online) textbook.
