Kenrick Wilson is the WHSAD Senior of the Week for February 5th, 2018. Kenrick exhibits a persevering work ethic and a desire to do more than just what is necessary. His mind is set on his goals and continuously works to achieve such goals. Because he is so intrinsically motivated, Kenrick consistently provides thoughtful analysis in all media of work he produces and seeks out opportunities to advance his understanding of those subjects in which he is interested. With his generous and amiable nature, Kenrick demonstrates not only a determined student but also one who is having fun while succeeding.
Kenrick’s YPLAN Environmental Science teacher, Ms. Tom, had this to say about him: “He goes above and beyond for every assignment. Anytime we have to do anything outside of class, he’s the first one to volunteer. When I first met Kenrick, I knew he was going to be one of my top students, just because he is very meticulous with his work, and anytime you give him an assignment, he just goes above and beyond again. It’s not just the one sentence response to him, I can get a full paragraph every time I ask him for something. He takes his thoughts and verbalizes them, and speaks it very well. The first time I met him, I was blown away by how much he participated in class, and all of his assignments are just so thoughtful.”
In addition, Kenrick’s YPLAN Economics teacher, Ms. Cahill, said, “He’s an all-around nice kid and a hard worker. He always goes above and beyond what he’s asked to do. Kenrick is that kid that you can always count on.”
Below Kenrick provides thoughts on his selection as Senior of the Week in an interview with Sophomore correspondent Antonio Perez.
My goals in WHSAD are to achieve my AutoCAD diploma which will help me enormously in the field of landscaping. Then from there, I believe that I can achieve a degree in landscaping and technology. I’m always trying to move forward and just keep advancing myself in any ways possible. In life I never see myself doing just one thing. After landscaping, I can see myself moving into plain architecture for a couple of years. I believe that the teachers in WHSAD are really who helped me realize all of this-that I can keep pushing myself and that there is no boundary to my skills or to my capabilities. The teachers play a key and influential role in the WHSAD community; they offer an enormously calm environment and allow for children to find the perfect way they can work to the best of their abilities. Each teacher knows how every student can produce their best quality work, so they can truly adapt to each student’s needs and help them grow. Personally, I believe I was nominated because of my dedication to my work and how I always try my best to exceed what is expected of me. I’m always trying to improve myself in any way possible. Science, Social Studies, English, and Gym would have to be my favorite classes because of the relaxing, fun, and unique environment that each individual class offers. In these classes, I’m able to apply myself in a way which I can work hard yet still be calm because of the teachers and the students that make each class special. WHSAD has given me so much, so after I meet my goals of a college degree, I would love to come back and not just visit but help as much as I can to make this school a better place for students and teachers alike.
