Preservation Alumni Newsletter from Columbia University
February 1, 2011

Text below image reads:
Students at the Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design gathered for a photo op with their teacher, Jay Wiprovnick, and Columbia HP professors Norman Weiss and Joan Berkowitz, who taught a class in mortar analysis there last fall. The students are enrolled in the Preservation Arts and Technology (PAT) Program, the curriculum of which is structured to allow students to view traditional subjects through the lens of historic preservation by focusing on a specific historic structure or artifact to study the elements of its creation, preservation, and interpretation. Williamsburg is the first secondary school in the United States to offer historic preservation as a full major. If you’re interested in sharing your expertise with collegiate-tracked preservation thinkers through the PAT Program, or organizing one in your community, please contact Kate Burns Ottavino or click here to learn more.

Supervised by Frank Morelli, Green-Wood's manager of Preservation and Restoration, Faroul has learned a range of skills in the six weeks he has spent here each summer: pressure washing tombs, repairing broken headstones, and creating molds for statue repair.
