Greetings Parents and Students!
February 14, 2012
Dear students,
As we begin the second term, you are now familiar with the routines and procedures of 10th grade English class. The daily independent reading is now 50 minutes of home reading daily, at least 6 days every week. The Log should include the date, time, author, title of your chosen book. Each daily log must have a paragraph or two, discussing your response to the reading . The writing should at this time of the year show evidence of thought about literary elements discussed in class. Daily logs must also include at least one vocabulary word from the book, with the quote containing that word in context, as well as the dictionary definition. If your book does not have new words every day, I suggest you choose a more sophisticated book, as the goal is to increase your vocabulary knowledge through independent reading. The other benefit is to enjoy a lifelong hobby of reading, so head to a library and browse your selections. When the June Regents asks you to write about the books you have read this year, you will have many options. The reading logs will be collected the last day of the marking period and will be your Reading Project Grade.
Sincerely. Ms. Pickering
