The Six Basic Constructions
This week in Geometry we will be using a compass and straightedge to perform the six basic constructions: 1) Copying a line segment 2) Copying an angle 3) Creating a perpendicular bisector 4) Creating an angle bisector 5) Creating parallel lines 6) Creating a perpendicular line through a given point When creating a perfect construction no numbers are involved. We do not measure, but rather we mark off distance by creating arcs (or congruent circles) using a compass. There are many videos on you tube that demonstrate each construction. For an animated tutorial: Click here or go to http://www.mathsisfun.com/geometry/constructions.html … [Read more...]
Geometry Assignments: Transversal
For the last few days we have been exploring special angle relationships formed when two parallel lines are cut by a transversal. Remember their names and where these angles are located (as the diagram may be different). If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then their alternate interior angles are congruent. If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then their alternate exterior angles are congruent. If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then their corresponding angles are congruent. The worksheet is due Monday. The performance packet is due Tuesday. [gview file="https://www.whsad.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/transversals-review.pdf"] [gview … [Read more...]

Geometry Performance Task: Walking in the Rain
How do we use inductive reasoning to put pictures in the proper sequence? Your task is to rearrange the 8 tiles to create a "logical" story about Mr. Brown's journey. The first panel (A) is the labeled for you. Use the clues in the pictures and the given facts to create the correct sequence. Then, in full sentences, complete the reflection questions. This assignment is worth 20 points and is due on Tuesday, September 17th. [gview file="https://www.whsad.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/PT_WalkingintheRain.docx"] … [Read more...]
