Today we finished the lab experiment from Monday. We used chemical and physical properties to devise our own periodic tables of unknown elements.
Some shout-outs for creative work:
Nathifa (P.1) used metallic character to classify her elements. She determined the extent of metallic character among different solids by comparing their ionization energies. I didn’t even think of that!
Angela (P.3) grouped her elements into metals, metalloids, and nonmetals. Pretty clever!
Anah and Donavon (P.5) looked up properties of different metals, metalloids (which they identified by the range of temperatures between they were liquid for), and nonmetals and assigned the elements to those groups. They even broke down big groups into subgroups, such as the noble gases. They hit a snag with ionization energy, but way to go the extra mile!
If you need help with periodicity, check out this website. It has lots of great resources, all lovingly rendered in 90s GeoCities schik.
Remember, we have a test on Friday! Review tomorrow.
