AIM: How can we use a DNA template to code for RNA?

DNA code is written with the letters G C A and T

RNA code is written with the letters G C A and U

A DNA template strand can be used to code for a complementary strand of DNA by using the rules of DNA base pairing.

DNA   to   DNA

A pairs with T

T pairs with A

G pairs with C

C pairs with G

A DNA template strand can also be used to code for a strand of RNA by using the rules of DNA to RNA base pairing.

DNA   to    RNA

A pairs with U

T pairs with A

G pairs with C

C pairs with G

RNA code does not have the letter T. In RNA, the base U will be attached to an A in the DNA template.
