Today we began to talk about molecular geometry.  We briefly mentioned three shapes that molecules can take:

  • Tetrahedral: five atoms, in a pyramid
  • Trigonal Planar: four atoms, in a triangle
  • Linear: three atoms, in a line

We also began to talk about how molecular geometry influences polarity, but we will revisit that tomorrow.

Aim: How does molecular geometry affect polarity?
