Periodicity Lab

Yesterday we explored the trends in reactivity as we travel from left to right on the periodic table.  We saw a video of sodium and water reacting (watch it again here).  There are many great videos of sodium and water reacting on YouTube, but we cannot access that from school.  We then saw a demo of Mg reacting with HCl, and experimented with several metals in acid.

Most groups concluded that reactivity decreases as you travel to the right on the periodic table.  And that is correct . . . as far as we have seen.  Next week we will explore periodic trends and we may see exceptions to that conclusion!
