Today’s Aim and Weekend Homework

As you know, we have been watching The Matrix, a film dealing with reality, systems of control, freedom of the mind, and all the good stuff that is philosophy. Yesterday and today we focused on the dystopic elements of the settings.

Setting One: The Matrix
Setting Two: The Real World

Aim: What is dystopic about the two settings of the film and which would you prefer to live in?

Assignment Due Monday:

Choose which world you would rather live in. Explain why you chose it and why it is better than the alternative. However, there are parameters. You may not choose the Real World so you can re-enter the Matrix and fight agents. This isn’t an apotheosis assignment. Take it seriously. Neither choice is easy, but isn’t that the nature of all choice?

There is no required amount of writing for this assignment. However, you know what I think is unacceptable at the senior level and you know what you are capable of. To write 3-5 sentences will not, I repeat, will not get the job done. That’s too short. Save the short stuff for your Twitter account where the purpose of thought is restrictive.

Enjoy, young padawan learners.
