Hello, Seniors.

Attached to this you will find your first assignment. It is two parts. The first is the worksheet which goes along with the poem, which is the second. Please hand this in on Monday if you have not already done so.

Also, in case you were not here today (Friday), here are the notes which should be in your notebook. These will be the ideas that we will be working with for the entirety of the semester.

Dystopia: A society that is frightening in its implications

“Dys” meaning “bad”
“Topia” meaning “place”

Characteristics of a Dystopian Society
-Society is typically the antagonist
-Society works against the protagonist
-Usually a totalitarian or authoritarian government
-Loss of civil liberties
-Bad living conditions
-Constant surveillance
-Often depicted as Utopian
-Make you believe that the loss of something is for your benefit
-*The scariest part of the dystopian concept is that we may be living in one and not even know it
