photo 4We are in our second unit of the year: Wood Joinery. After we have explored and studied how structures stand up in our first unit we are now exploring how structural elements can be connected. We are focusing on wood joinery.

Joinery is the art of attaching one piece of wood with another, which has been practiced thousands of years. A joint is considered a mechanical strength to the extend the that the pieces of wood physically interlock. Sometimes the mechanical strength is all which is required other times glue strength needs to be added.
