This spring, in partnership with NYC Service, the NYC Department of Buildings is launching an inaugural Youth Leadership Council (YLC) for CTE high school students (grades 10-12). This YLC is for students interested in pursuing careers in architecture, engineering, sustainability, construction management/trades, and public safety. The students accepted to this council will form our very first Sustainability and Construction Safety Task Force. Receive the opportunity to learn directly from our engineers, architects, sustainability experts, and inspectors, and design and complete a major outreach project for a city agency.
The NYC Department of Buildings is responsible for ensuring the safe and lawful use of buildings and properties by enforcing the NYC Construction Codes, Energy Code and Zoning Resolution. We seek to work with passionate students interested in taking on leadership roles and expanding their knowledge of the above mentioned fields. Join us, and help ensure the safety of your community!
In addition to seminars on sustainability and construction safety, this incomparable resume-building experience will provide students with assistance in developing cover letters, resumes, and interview skills.
The YLC begins on January 7th, 2020, and will meet twice a month through May (for a total of 11 sessions). Seminars will take place at the DOB HQ, 280 Broadway, every other Tuesday from 3:45PM to 5:15PM.
