WHSAD Juniors went to the Brooklyn Museum to learn about Pierre Cardin, a French women’s fashion designer and a pioneer in the design of high fashion for men.

Ms. Moos: I took the students to the trip because the way Pierre Cardin works made me think about the education of the students here at WHSAD as architects and designers. I was worried that looking at fashion from the 60s was not going to be interesting for the students, but when I took them, I was surprised at how much they enjoyed it. It was an amazing trip. The students saw a lot of things. They all think Pierre Cardin took fashion to another level. Many of the designs are very expensive, but Pierre Cardin thinks fashion should be for everyone no matter the gender. Overall it was a great trip.

Martina Rojo: The trip was very interesting and the designs were really eye catching and colorful. I learned how Pierre showed modern designs. It opened my mind by giving me ideas. Being a designer is one of my options as a career. At first I thought I was just going to see art, but I actually saw other things as well. The designs were really unique, I enjoyed the trip a lot.

Kimberly De Santiago: At first I thought the trip was going to be about only one thing, but I actually saw many different styles. Overall I learned a variety of different things. I learned about Pierre Cardin. His designs are very unique, they are not basic like no other designs I’ve seen. I learned that in order to be a fashion designer there are many different steps. One day I’d like to be a fashion designer.

Mekhi Brown: The trip was nice and different from other trips. The trip was about fashion. I like that there was a variety of fashion shown. I enjoyed the different outfits I saw. I thought I was only going to see paintings but instead it was all about fashion. I learned about Pierre Cardin. I didn’t know who he was before the trip.

Elijah Roman: The trip was very interesting. When we first got there, I was amazed by what I saw. Pierre Cardin did something very different with fashion. He used shapes in his designs. I learned a lot in the museum. He did many designs for Star Wars. I would like to be a studio designer. I didn’t know who he was at first. I learned how creative he is and how something so simple can create a extremely unique piece. I was very inspired by his designs.

Dimitri Brown: The trip was really good, and it motivated me to have an interest in fashion design. I learned how the designs are made and why they cost so much. I’d like to be a fashion designer because I’d like to wear my own clothing as it would describe me in a way.  I learned that everything first starts with a thought and being creative is very important in the field.

Shanice Daris: I enjoyed the trip because it was about fashion. It gave me an idea on how other people see fashion. I learned how Pierre made outfits for Star Wars and about the material he used. I want to be a fashion designer because I’ve been around fashion my whole life. At first I thought I was going to meet a designer, but we actually saw cool designs.
