Sophomore correspondents, Mayra Gomez and Maya Ortiz, conduct student of the month interviews and write-ups.
Tyasia Brooks, currently a senior at WHSAD, loves this school because it has a lot of great opportunities and even if you were to fall off they give you a lot of chances to rebuild.
She feels like she deserves being student of the month for January because teachers have seen her at her lowest moments and have seen her grow as a person. Despite every negative thing in life, this school has helped her go through it.
Although her grades may not be the best, she keeps going and she thinks many people have noticed all of her effort. She says she had this one teacher who helped learn that grit was the perseverance found within yourself. In order to be able to go through everything she’s been through she finds the motivation to go with her day and the motivation to get up in the morning.
Some of Tyasia’s teachers, Ms. Cahill, Ms. Tom, Ms. Wilson, and Mr. Codio, treat all students as if they were in the workforce. She thinks they help her understand what is beyond high school.
Tyasia says that her highlight during her past few years is now because people have seen her grow and become a better person. She thinks this recognition of her hard work is only motivation for her to keep pushing. She thought she was in a lot of low points throughout her school years and right now she can say she’s at her strong spot.
Tyasia believes the school should work on individualized passions since every student has a separate goal.
