Photography club focuses on helping students take charge of their work and learning through hands-on experience. Members get various opportunities to shoot in school events because the club is so involved with the school and its students. At the same time there is a strong emphasis on exploration and self direction, which is encouraged through trips and time outside of school. On Friday, November 21 photography club students took a trip into the city, starting at the One World Trade Center, a historical landmark located on 285 Fulton St near Tribeca. Students began at the Oculus, drawn to the building's exterior, unique and striking when compared to the modern office buildings that surrounded it. The Oculus connects to the subway housing … [Read more...]

WHSAD Students Reflect on Their Newtown Creek Alliance Green Roof Design Work
As part of last year's summer bridge program, our incoming freshman class began their work in designing a new green roof at the Newtown Creek Alliance headquarters in Greenpoint. This project immediately exposed these students to one of the many opportunities WHSAD has to offer. What have been some of your most memorable moments over the last four years at WHSAD? My most memorable moments over the last 4 years attending WHSAD had to be the friend's I've made along the way. Another memorable moment over the last 4 years was falling in love with a sport. I remember in gym … [Read more...]

What have been some of your most memorable moments over the last four years at WHSAD? In my second year, it was also fun because we had to use computers and work on apps that I’ve never used before. In my third year, I was able to work with wood, and we were able to make small coffee tables. During that big project, I had fun making my table and it turned out great even though I’ve never done wood cutting before. Lastly, this school year has been pretty fast … [Read more...]
