Lewis Structures: Polyatomic Ions

For the last three days, we have been studying polyatomic ions, and ways to draw Lewis stuctures for them.  Our steps:

  1. Separate your metal and nonmetals
  2. Assign charges to each
  3. Draw the Lewis structure of your nonmetal using the tricks we already know
  4. Draw the polyatomic ion and metal together like we learned for salts

For bonus credit, figure out why we say “polyatomic” instead of “multiatomic.”
