This week we begin a new unit about the architectural uses of terracotta. This humble clay-based material can be use to make utilitarian objects, fireproofing panels or beautiful details that define a building’s character. The unit will lead up to students creating a small decorative plaque inspired by historical glazed terracotta signs in our subway system. Try to guess the stations from which these pictures came.
