Dear incoming sophomores,
I will be your English teacher for the upcoming academic year 2013-2014, and am pleased to present you with your summer reading assignment. Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston is a coming-of-age novelthat includes love, disappointment, segregation, a Florida hurricane.
YOUR ASSIGNMENT: Read the novel. As you read, complete the assignment by going online to www.neabigread.org/books/theireyes. Click on teacher lesson plans. Complete Days 1-10, as described, by listening to the audio links, thinking and writing about discussion questions, reading handouts, writing exercises and homework. Create CAPSTONE PROJECT # 4 as a cover for your written project. When we return to school, hand in your project the first week, and be prepared for an assessment that assumes you have read the book. Have a safe, enjoyable summer, and I’ll see you in September. Sincerely, Ms. Pickering
