Ten students and two teachers from WHSAD spent two days during Spring Break at Dyckman Farmhouse to do restoration work.
During the 2014 spring break the World Monuments Fund (WMF) hosted a Field School at Dyckman Farmhouse in Upper Manhattan. Adrian Sas from It’s My Park came to shoot video and conduct interviews with the kids. The following short clip features WHSAD students in action.
WHSAD Junior Arlene Lindo, pictured on the left, stated that, “Overall, the trip to the Dyckman Farmhouse was an eye-opening experience.”
As part of the ongoing Field School program, designed and implemented by WMF, teachers and students from WHSAD use their holiday time to restore important landmarks in New York. During the Field School designed for the 2014 spring break, ten students and two teachers from WHSAD spent two days at Dyckman Farmhouse in Upper Manhattan to do restoration work. WHSAD Junior Arlene Lindo described the experience:
“Over Spring Break, we went to the Dyckman Farmhouse for Field School. During the time we learned the history behind the farmhouse. In addition, we learned several methods to repair and restore the house, including the walls and shutters. We also learned about carpenter bees and how to repair the holes left behind. One of the days we met a [welder] who taught us the importance of [welding]. Overall, the trip to the Dyckman Farmhouse was an eye-opening experience.”
