How would you rate your experience at WHSAD?
I rate my experience in WHSAD as very good because WHSAD has great teachers who try to bring the best out of you everyday. You also have your peers supporting you and giving you a good time in classes. I like the opportunities given in WHSAD and love the fact that teachers are willing to help you improve as I student. I liked that the time given in assignments isn’t too heavy and the fact office hours are always open to me. I like that if you can’t do work on time, teachers could give you more time with it as long as you’re getting work done and putting in effort.
What could you tell other WHSAD students about the programs with which you may be involved?
I tell students through my social media platforms since I post on them constantly. I post stories about the project I’ve been working on. Also, at lunch time I talk to other students who want to do projects with the school. Having the choice to decide what project I want to work on under the guidance of one of your architecture teachers, Mr.Rodriguez, is fun. I love that I am working on the computer generated 3d models which I love doing and desire to do in the future.
Could you describe your experience with the resources WHSAD provides?
WHSAD provides a lot of resources. My favorite online resources are AutoCad and Revit. I have fun learning about turning a 2d model into 3d one. AutoCad creates an auto generated 2d model that can be transferred into a Revit file that creates a 3d design. These online resources are helpful since in the future it will help me design the type of home I would like to have. At this moment I am happy that WHSAD has provided me with these resources since it opens me the opportunity to work with architects who know the resources well, which will make me become an expert in Revit and Auto Cad.
Do you have a specific project that you look fondly at? Could you describe the project and its purpose?
The project that I look fondly at is the Front Street project. The project is redesigning Front Street which is located along the North shore of Staten Island. The purpose is to provide shoreline hardening, resiliency, infrastructure and connectivity needs while providing high-quality waterfront open space. I like that we are redesigning with our teammates a street which is fun and challenging.
What advice could you provide to underclassmen at WHSAD?
Some advice I would give is to focus on yourself. I say that because your work must be turned in with effort on time to receive full credit. You must be organized. There are 6-7 classes everyday for 5 days throughout the week. You must be devoted to your own work and make sure you’re neat and productive. Spend extra time looking at teacher feedback and notes because that is how you’re going to improve as a student.
All the work you’re doing now, how will it benefit your path in the future?
All the work I am doing now will help me in my path in life by providing me job experience as well as setting me up to be accepted into a good college for my career. Talking with and helping teachers will provide me with teacher recommendation letters that will help me be accepted in colleges I want to get in. All the hard work will help me develop a habit of constantly working hard and making sure that work doesn’t pile up since in college if work piles up, it is hard to do make up. Overall WHSAD is helping me transition to college life and help me be the best college student I could be.
