Part of the experience of being a WHSAD student is the opportunity to participate in activities beyond the classroom. Through the efforts of dedicated and experienced staff members, WHSAD students expand their understandings of the architectural arts, which will, in turn, help such students amass a wider array of technical knowledge marketable in today’s competitive climate. One trip in particular occurred this past Wednesday, October 18th, at Architectural Grille. Here students explored the intricacies involved in this specific aspect of design. On October 18 a select group of WHSAD students were invited to attend Architectural Grille, a custom manufacturer of grilles and other custom products. Students were able to get a hands on experience with the creations of the Architectural Grille team and really observe all the work that goes into every tiny detail. Seeing all of the hard work that actually goes behind their creations is mind blowing. When you observe the work, it all seems simple, but actually seeing every machine and the process that the creations go through, really helps to put everything into perspective. Each creation has to be precisely measured, cut, pressed, welded, and painted. Now we were lucky enough to be able to witness all of this hands on. Unfortunately, the machines were not running at our time of arrival but we still got to see the machines and find out details about each machine and how it specifically helps in the creation process.

After our tour of the manufacturing plant, it was now time to interview for possible positions as interns. Through collaboration with Architectural Grille, WHSAD was able to create a team of students who are responsible and ready to participate in a project like this. If chosen, these students would participate in hands on projects, where they would develop and program their own creations. Being able to participate in projects like these is an amazing opportunity not only to learn but also to strengthen our knowledge of the work field for when we graduate high school. My fellow WHSAD peers and I are blessed and grateful to be able to work on such a project that will broaden our capabilities and help expand the fundamentals of our knowledge. We would all love to give a massive Thank You to everyone who was responsible for making this dream a possibility and, of course, to Architectural Grille for allowing this collaboration to happen.
