On October 15th, WHSAD students were blessed with the opportunity to attend a college fair at the Aviator Center. Students had the chance not only to learn more about the colleges attending the event but also to explore interests in potential majors and minors.
Representatives from all colleges at the fair were present and students were able to have one on one conversations with the people who actually work at the schools’ offices of admissions. This is important because students get to make a lasting first impression on the people who may eventually be deciding whether they want to accept these students into their schools. All the students attending took advantage of this opportunity to make impressions and prepare for their futures.
As Juniors and Seniors, the time to think about colleges is now, and this fair helped many students to do just that. Many colleges that people were initially unfamiliar with and or had no clue even existed were introduced to these students and had students intrigued and involved with the schools. Learning more about colleges is important because sooner rather than later the time where we have to apply for colleges is approaching, and it’s best for us to be prepared as soon as possible so we can know all our options regarding schools.
During the visit, some students shared their thoughts about the event and why it was so important to attend.
Bryant Perez, a WHSAD Junior, noted, “The college fair was great, especially because it allowed me to look at colleges that I didn’t even know existed, and the best part is that they are really good, affordable and now on top of my list of colleges I’ll like to go to.”
Jonah Vazquez, a WHSAD Junior, related, “Being able to view colleges and speak to representatives and gain more insight about the colleges was an unexpected yet welcomed surprise for me. I was able to have discussions with these representatives and learn more specifics about colleges I was originally not familiar with.”
Ariana Lowery a WHSAD Junior, said,“I personally liked the College Fair because I got to explore not only a diverse pallet of schools but also explore my own interests. Right now I’m not sure about what I want to major in in college but having the chance to participate in a fair like this gives me that chance to explore all my possibilities.”
Gabriel Nieves, a WHSAD Junior, had this to say about the event, “I liked how the colleges were very friendly about telling us about the college. I found it interesting that there’s plenty of colleges in upstate NY that people don’t even know about. I learned about Alfred University which is upstate and has cool technology majors.”
Jessica Juarez a WHSAD Junior had this to say about the event, “Something that I liked about the college fair is that there were many colleges and universities from NY and from other states. I find it interesting that there’s many colleges in NY that are not too far from where I live and that some colleges don’t ask for your SAT score. I’m still not sure what college I should go to.”
Good luck to all who are taking on the process of searching and then applying to schools. Make sure to begin early and often so that you are aware of all opportunities. Speak to your guidance counselor about what you may be interested in doing after WHSAD.
