My aspiration of wanting to be an architect wouldn’t have become what it is without attending WHSAD. From the countless projects throughout all four years of high school, it has prepared me for whatever I have in store for the future. From learning about two point perspectives to house plans in AutoCAD, I am certain that this is what I want to pursue in college. However, I do have other interests with environmental sustainability and computer science.

I’ve had the opportunity to meet with architects at firms like Perkins Eastman, DHD Architecture and COOKFOX NYC. COOKFOX NYC hosted us at one of their greenhouses in Central Park where I was intrigued by the combination of art, design and environmental sustainability. Using recyclable and reusable materials, the greenhouse had art on the walls and a beehive on the terrace. My high school experiences taught me about different styles of architecture and designs and instilled in me an interest in integrating environmental causes into my designs as both architect and urban planner.

With my interest in computer science and in expanding my intelligence for it, I decided to attend Co-op, which is a trade school that our school allows all seniors on track to graduate to attend. They gave us a list of 16 different trades to learn such as Carpentry, Web Design, Graphic Design etc. I chose Web Design because I wanted to possibly connect my knowledge of architecture and web design. I have been working on the languages of CSS, HTML and JavaScript. We have made many different websites on our own choices, mine have been over football, my school’s track team, and about a product of our choice. My teacher, Mr. Williams has taught my class and me not only skills of web design but also every Friday he talks with us about financial topics, what we want to do about college, and just life advice in general. Building a website is easy, but designing one takes skill.
