NYRR $2,000 Scholarship for Junior Girls

NYRR Run for the Future is a free summer running program for young women going into their senior year of high school. This unique opportunity welcomes those with little to no prior athletic experience and introduces them to the sport of running. Along with support and guidance from NYRR’s coaching staff, NYRR Run for the Future participants have access to workshops that teach the new runners about running technique, nutrition, form drills, stretching, as well as, developing healthy body image and goal setting. At the conclusion of the seven-week program, the runners participate in their first 5K race at the Percy Sutton Harlem 5K Run in late August. 2017 Summer Youth Applications Now Available

If you’re looking for a summer job, you can apply now for the city’s Summer Youth Employment Program. The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with paid summer employment for up to six weeks from July 5th through August 19th . Participants work in entry-level jobs in a variety of industries including: Arts and Recreation Educational Services Financial Services Healthcare/Medical Hospitality/Tourism Information Technology Manufacturing Marketing/Public Relations Media/Entertainment Real Estate/Property Retail Programs are located in community-based organizations in all five boroughs of New York City. WHSAD Can Drive a Success With the Help of HEALTH for Youths

WHSAD kicked off 2017 with its first community service project. On January 18, 2017 WHSAD students and SKILLS USA members delivered over 400 cans of food to City Harvest’s collection site at Engine 229 Ladder 146 on Richardson Street in Greenpoint/Williamsburg, Brooklyn. WHSAD students and their families generously donated all of these canned goods. A special thanks to Heather Butts of H.E.A.L.T.H for YOUTHS for working with our students and SKILLS USA members to assist in the collection and drop off of the cans. Free SAT Prep and American History Elective

Saturday Academy, a partnership of the FAO Schwarz Education Center and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, for students in grades 8–12.  Classes are held at the Museum of the City of New York 1220 Fifth Avenue @ 103rd Street in NYC. Saturday Academy is a free six-session program for students interested in American History and SAT preparation. There’s no homework and all course materials are provided.   Spring 2017 courses meet on Saturdays, March 11, 18, 25, April 1, 22, and 29. Students are expected to attend all six sessions and will receive a Certificate of Achievement at the end of the program. Summer Internship at the West Side YMCA

The YMCA recognizes many teenagers cannot secure work over the summer.  The majority of employment opportunities available to teens oftentimes do very little to build their resumes or skill sets.  The West Side YMCA has developed Teen Career Connection (TTC) to address this need. TCC is an eight-week comprehensive internship program, providing NYC youth an unparalleled opportunity.  TTC is an eight week program, which consists of two weeks of job readiness training and six weeks of the internship.
