Makeville Studio- WHSAD Intro to Woodworking

We are pleased to announce the launch of the WHSAD / Powerhouse partnership with our  March, 2016 pilot program. This course will take place at the Makeville studio on site at the Gowanus Canal. In this 8 week course, WHSAD students will use a variety of common woodworking techniques to construct a side table. Through the process of building the table, students will develop technical skills and a basic understanding of construction and joinery methods used in furniture projects. Students will discuss wood movement and anatomy, as well as selecting the right wood for various design projects. WHSAD Seniors Accepted to DSF Internship Program

Five students in the Class of 2016 have been accepted into the NYCDOE's Division of School Facilities Internship Program for the Spring 2016 term. Following a week of job readiness training, three interns, Nathifa Debellotte, Samara Hernandez, and Terrelle Jones, will be paired with DSF carpenters to work on maintenance and repairs at various NYCDOE schools. Heritage Equity Partners Launches Program at WHSAD

  Heritage Equity Partners is launching a joint initiative with The Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design to implement a Work Based Learning Speaker Series. On January 6, 2016 the inaugural lecture was led by Stefani Marazzi and Benjamin Stark of Slater & Beckerman, a New York City law firm with expertise in zoning, land use, construction permitting and municipal law. The lecture was held in Mr. Codio’s 12th grade Advanced Computer Aided Drafting and Design class. Because students are working on renderings of possible buildings, the topic of the lecture focused on zoning laws and regulations. Parent Engagement Workshops at WHSAD

WHSAD Officers for SkillsUSA Attend Fall Leadership

A group of student officers attended the 50th anniversary of SkillsUSA’s fall leadership conference. During the conference the students engaged in workshops that improved their leadership skills in the workforce. November, 2015 SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel. WHSAD Students Intern at the Pellettieri Stone Carvers Academy

A group of North Brooklyn students are learning about an ancient but often overlooked art form, and ensuring that it’s tradition is preserved in the neighborhood and beyond. For just over a month now, four students from the Williamsburg High School of Architecture and Design (WHSAD) have been interning at the Pellettieri Stone Carvers Academy on Kingsland Avenue as part of the school’s Summer Internship Program, with 28 students from the school currently enrolled in different programs throughout the neighborhood. WHSAD Students Tour The Grand Central Terminal

On October 28th, a group of students attended a tour at one of New York City's most prominent landmark, The Grand Central Terminal, which is located on 42nd street and Park avenue. The tour was hosted by the Worlds Monument Fund and guided by Frank Prial from Beyer Blinder Belle Architects & planners LLP, who has been working on the terminal's restoration and redesign efforts for over two decades. Frank has been giving tour guides to WHSAD students for the past few years, highlighting the terminals architectural features and its major contributions to the growth of New York City as a transportation hub.
