After-School class in Construction Management @ Pratt

New After-School class in Construction Management (for NYC high school students) at Pratt Manhattan Campus.

 

Taught by Pratt Institute faculty from the Construction Management Program, the class is offered at no cost to motivated high schools students at the Pratt Manhattan campus, located at 144 West 14th Street, New York, NY.

 

Construction Management

Construction management represents a diversified industry employing over six million people with job opportunities in commercial, institutional, industrial, residential, and civil construction, as well as academic institutions. Through hands-on projects and tours, this class will provide an overview of these industries, exploring the interrelationship of the team: the owner/facility manager, construction manager, architect, engineer, contractor, subcontractor and supplier, and building operator; as well as introducing the technical and leadership skills necessary to meet the ever-changing needs of these dynamic professions.

 

CALENDAR Fall 2016–Spring 2017

Classes Meet: September 28 – April 19, Wednesdays, 5-7 PM

 

No classes:

November 23 (Thanksgiving)

December 21 – January 25 (Winter Break)

February 22 (Midwinter Recess)

March 15 (Pratt’s Spring Break)

April 12 (Spring Recess)

 

REGISTRATION

Registration is first-come, first-served, and classes will fill up quickly. Registration for 2016-2017 classes will be open from September 1 – 27.

Who is eligible?

Students attending New York City public high schools are eligible to register if they:

  •           Demonstrate an interest in art, design, and related fields
  •           Qualify for financial need (NYS free or reduced lunch program)
  •           Obtain their art teacher’s or school administrator’s recommendation on the registration form.

 

Attendance

Good attendance and punctuality is expected and is necessary to complete projects. Students with more than three absences per term may be withdrawn from classes. Parents must notify the office of any student’s absence in advance by phone or email.
