The Coop Tech program provides students, such as Daniel Rojas, with opportunities to explore their passions. In the following narrative, the WHSAD senior shares his experience in the Carpentry program.

Daniel working on a project

I chose to go to Coop Tech because I wanted to learn new things. I looked at it as an opportunity to learn new things that would help me for my future. At Coop Tech, I’m in the Carpentry class. I chose Carpentry because I like to build things, and I like to work with my hands. In this class I’m learning the basics of Carpentry like how to work properly with power tools and how to read the ruler. Also, in the next term I will be learning the importance of safeness to work (OSHA).

Something that I like most about my class is that all my classmates take the class very seriously. They come to class willing to work and learn new things. My teacher is very strict because he wants us to be prepared for a real job. He wants us to learn how to work with power tools and hand tools because sometimes there will be no electricity, and we must know how to work without power tools. He always tells us to act professional.

For now, I’m not planning to be a carpenter. First I’m trying to go to college to get a degree, but if something changes, my backup plan is to start working as a carpenter in a union. Coop Tech gives opportunities to students who do not know what they are going to do in their future. With the different classes Coop Tech offers, students can find something they like. I recommend Coop Tech because they give you many opportunities to explore what you are good at and work on something you like to do.
