Psychological Disorders Project

Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. Psychological disorders are behavior patterns or mental processes that cause serious personal suffering or interfere with a person’s ability to cope with everyday life. Below you will find a list of psychological disorders from which you must choose from in order to complete your project.

Cutting and self-mutilation

Anxiety & stress disorders
Tourette syndrome
Addictive personality/Substance Abuse
Compulsive behavior disorder
Bipolar disorder
Post traumatic Stress Disorder

Oppositional defiant disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

Part I- PowerPoint Presentation

I. Students will create a PowerPoint presentation to explain to the class the details of a Mental Disorder. Your PowerPoint must include the following:

 Name and classification of the disorder
 Symptoms and Types
 Testing
 Treatment/Medication
 How does one live/manage their disease throughout his/her life?

II. Your PowerPoint must have a minimum of 6 slides to address the facts you research which explain to the class the information that you have to find. Please be creative and design your PowerPoint so that the class learns from it. You must present the PowerPoint during class time. This presentation will be counted towards your second quarter grade.

III. Your presentation, PowerPoint and paper will count as your midterm grade.

Part II- Written Paper

Following proper guidelines for writing your essay must include an introduction and a conclusion. You may write your paper as one continuous paper or write in bullets in which you explain each major point below with a heading.

Your paper must include the following-

Explain the classification of the disorder. This includes what fields the disorder is found under and the details of the disorder. This must be put in your own words and properly cited.

Describe the symptoms and different types of the disorder. This may include how someone discovers they have this disorder, the different signs of the disorder, and the types of the disorder that someone could have which are similar to your disorder.

Explain how a person is tested for the disorder. Include the role that a psychologist/psychiatrist plays in the testing.

Provide different types of treatments that an individual would take place in if diagnosed with the disorder. This includes medication, therapy, and any other treatment which would bring about positive/negative change for the client with the disorder.

Discuss how the disorder, the treatment and other facts would influence a person’s life while living through it.

Follow the rules of grammar, including proper capitalization, punctuation and spelling.

Students must provide a works cited page in APA style. Listing all of the sources and citing throughout the paper so that the reader can see where the information was found.
