Reminder: Homework 1 Due Tomorrow!

Aim: How do we talk about the location of objects?

Do Now: Answer in your notebooks: Remember the verb estar? What does it mean? When have we used it before? How do you conjugate it? Estar means to be.  We have used it before to say how we are doing – Yo estoy bien.

(NOTE:  Don’t get Ser and Estar confused.  They both mean to be but have different uses)

ESTAR

yo- estoy – I am                         

tú- estas – you are                     Use ESTAR to talk about: 

el- esta – he is                              Fleelings

nos- estamos – we are               Location

ellos- estan – they are               Ing verbs

Preposiciones – We use prepositions with ESTAR to talk about the location of objects.

al lado de – next to

cerca de – near

debajo de – under

detras de – behind

encima de – on top of

lejos de – far from

al frente de – in front of

Examples:

El libro esta encima de la mesa.

La mochila esta debajo de el pupitre.

Mi casa esta al lado de el supermercado.
