The Brooklyn North Temple project is a project that was tasked upon WHSAD for the Brooklyn North Superintendent. Students were tasked with taking an image from the superintendent, and redesigning it in AutoCAD to eventually 3D print it. Students worked after hours and on weekends to finish the design in AutoCAD, 3D print it and, lastly, assemble it with lights in the columns. Mr. Codio the Senior Architecture teacher said this about the creation process of the Corinthian Temple: “From the image that we received from the superintendent we took into consideration the historical aspects of the Greek temples and the different types of temples. So we decided that the type of temple we were going to utilize was the Corinthian Temple because … [Read more...]

Architectural Grille
Architectural Grille is an extracurricular program offered at WHSAD for all students who are interested in design and using AutoCAD. Students work on elaborate and meticulously designed grilles in AutoCAD and then get to see their own designs become a physical object. This is all possible through our collaboration with the team over at Architectural Grille as they not only help us realize the physical limitations of our designs but they also print our designs in house onto sheets of metal. One of the biggest attractions that students have to Architectural Grille is the relation that the program has to the real world. Students get the chance to experience what it is like not only to work on a team but also to have strict deadlines and … [Read more...]
Van Arsdale Library Redesign
On January 5th, 2019, all of the schools in the Van Arsdale campus joined together for a good cause. Students from WHSAD, Brooklyn Prep., and Williamsburg Prep met to discuss the redesign of the V.A. library. The library as of now is outdated and has been in dire need of restoration. All the students proposals for what they wanted in a school library. Students then discussed with each other and offered valid and respectable criticism of their designs. This reflection is an essential part of any design proposal as all those involved get to each have a say in what choices will be made. This helps not only to please everyone but also to represent a wider audience in the design of the library. Mr. Codio, WHSAD's Senior Architecture … [Read more...]

Students Visit City College for a Final Architectural Review
On Friday, December 14th WHSAD students attended a final architectural review at the City College of New York. The architectural review was for the master's course offered at the school. The students presenting their year's worth of research were under review and watch by a panel of people. The review was interesting for many reasons, one being how the trip as a whole exposed students to this new part of architecture in a learning-based environment, with which many of us had not been familiar. This exposure was good for those students who are especially interested in applying to architectural colleges and or programs in the future. We got to experience what it’s like not only to present a final review but also what it’s like to review … [Read more...]
The Park Avenue Armory Provides WHSAD Students a Creative Way to Investigate History
Recognizing the ills of the past helps to improve the present and the future is one of the core beliefs of history teachers. By considering, analyzing, interpreting, and reflecting on events from before our time, we become more cognizant of what it means to be a human being. The ability to be essentially good comes from various influences: families, friends, media, cultural constructs, etc. However, adolescents spend a large portion of their time in school, and this is where they often investigate instances of the past and acquire contexts of which they would remain ignorant. Such a story has been on display for WHSAD sophomores over the last month and a half as they have been engaging in creatively understanding the impacts of … [Read more...]
