TEMA (Teen Empowerment Mural Apprenticeship) returns to WHSAD.

WHSAD students have once again been selected by Groundswell to be part of TEMA (Teen Empowerment Mural Apprenticeship), this Apprenticeship is a paid year long after-school pre-professional public art apprenticeship program for teens (14 to 19-year-olds) interested in using visual arts for the benefit of local communities. 18 of WHSAD's students have been selected to participate in this special opportunity. This school year WHSAD students will be participating in two mural projects one for Row New York and another for Ellis Island. Here is a short description of the first project at Row New York. WHSAD Students Visit the Sunnyside Gardens Historic District

On November 12, 2014 a group of juniors from Ms Moos and Mr. O’Brien’s class visited the Sunnyside Gardens Historic District, in Sunnyside, Queens. They were escorted by Mr. Geringer and Mr. Fearon. The group met with Mary Beth Betts the director of research of the Landmarks Preservation Commission. They took a walking tour of the historic area built between 1924 and 1935. It began as an alternative neighborhood which attracted low-income workers. Its’ garden-style apartments and other homes are reminiscent of architecture of German and Dutch neighborhoods. WHSAD’S 1st Annual Interior Design Contest

Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design (WHSAD) is hosting it's 1st Annual Interior Design Competition.  All WHSAD students in grades 9-12 are eligible to participate.  This year, students will be redesigning the main office space at their school.   The deadline for all team project submissions is December 1, 2014.  Students must work in teams of two (2).  All final designs must be done using AutoDesk AutoCAD 2014 software and presented via PowerPoint to a panel of judges.  CTE teachers are available by appointment or during the following dates and times for advise and support: Wednesdays - November 12th, 19th, and 26th 1:55pm-3:30pm Room 206 The two winners of this year's competition will each receive a brand new … [Read more...]
