The VA Cardinal's are chasing first place after their win against Automotive High School on Monday night. A&D junior Xavier Davenport was named player of the game. Xavier scored an impressive 28 points, four steals, and four assists. Senior Isaiah Torres scored 10 points. ELA Final Examination for the third marking period begins tomorrow Wednesday, January 14th, 2015. All first period students are asked to make a special effort to be on time for class so you can have maximum time to complete your exam. This exam will mirror the ELA Common Core Benchmark. Therefore, it will consist of two reading passages of which one is a poem. Ten multiple choice questions based on the readings, and an evidence based writing assignment. On Tuesday, December 9th 2014, WHSAD hosted their 1st Annual Interior Design Competition. The goal of this year’s competition was to redesign the main office space in order to create a more professional, functional, and efficient work environment that would house three different workstations for three different staff members. Students were given a finite budget and very specific design parameters to work within. Four teams of students presented their designs to a panel of six judges, including Deputy Borough President Diana Reyna. Students used AutoDesk AutoCAD 2014 software to generate their designs and their presentations were judged using a rubric that assessed their overall design quality, presentation style, ability to work … [Read more...]

On December 3rd, seventeen seniors were accompanied to visit the restoration happening at New York City’s famed St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The students were met by Thomas Murphy and Erin Fisher from Deerpath Construction Corporation. The tour began outside on 51st Street, where students watched the façade cleaning taking place. The Cathedral was built of brick clad in marble, quarried in Massachusetts and upstate New York. A worker demonstrated how a high powered sandblasting device is used in sections of the stone, to clean the façade from 50 years of soot and pollution. This extensive restoration has been going on since 2012, while St. Patrick’s has remained open to parishioners and thousands of tourists who visit the church daily. … [Read more...]
