Students receiving a score of 85 and up on the regents or report card were rewarded with an incentive ice skating trip to Wollman Rink in Central Park.

As sharp metal skates scraped against the cold hard ice. Giggles, screams, and the musical tunes of pop-culture illuminated the rink. During this bright but chilly day the students of WHSAD invaded the ice rink. The holding of hands was a method that students used to evade the utter embarrassment of tumbling on to the icy floor. “My butt hurts a lot but I had an incredibly large amount of fun…” claimed Donavon Bembridge; a bronzed honor roll freshman who crashed into the walls of the rink multiple times.

The sight of the hopeless freshman grabbed the attention of Angel Ordonez; a junior who assisted Donavon Bembridge on mastering the basics of ice-skating, but Bembridge wasn’t the only freshman who faced trouble with skating. Another freshman, Karli Batigani held on the walls of the rink for an hour until she was assisted by a group of juniors.

John Fermin, one junior from the group aided his fellow classmates by educating them with his prodigious ice skating skills. Skills USA member, Karina Anselmo latched onto Fermin and Ordonez. From their guidance Karina was able to maneuver through the ice.

Even though no Olympic medals were won that day every student found it enjoyable, minus the blisters on their feet.
