What have been some of your most memorable moments over the last four years at WHSAD?
I have had a lot of amazing moments at WHSAD. For starters, I met my boyfriend Dalton, and got close with my best friends Jayden, Max and Jaylin. We’re all a friend group, and we’ve hung out a lot. I can’t lie and say schools been perfect. Sometimes I get stressed, and sometimes life seems too complicated to handle. But then I remember all the amazing people I’ve met, the times we spent together, and how no matter what happens, I know they have my back. One of my favorite classes was architecture with Ms. Moos my junior year. It revived my love for art and set in stone that I wanted to be an art teacher.
What are your plans for life after high school? Why do you feel this is the best option for your at this time?
After school, I plan to go to Queens College and major in Art and Education. I’ve never had a doubt about whether or not to go to college because it just seems like the best option for me. I want a stable career and income, and I want to do so with a degree. I also want to experience more things at a different school because I know it’ll open my mind more and get me to be more independent.
What are some words of advice you would give to younger students?
Listen, I won’t say it’s going to be easy. In fact, sometimes it gets really hard. I understand the stress of thinking that you have to suddenly turn the switch and “become an adult”, like this is the only time in your life that you have to figure out what your entire future will look like. But that’s not true. High school can help you figure some things out, and some people really do know what they want in life. Good for you! But if you don’t, just know that’s more than okay. Your life isn’t ending. We’re still just kids trying to figure things out. I don’t think that ever really changes. I think all adults are just kids deep down trying to figure things out. What I can guarantee is that everything will be okay. Don’t stress yourself thinking about the future. Everything that needs to happen, will happen. And everything will work itself out. Trust me, you got this kiddo.
Where do you want to see yourself five, ten, and thirty years from now?
In a couple years from now, I can definitely see myself settled down with my husband. My picture perfect future would be in a beautiful house with the cliche white picket fence. A daughter, a son, and especially a dog. Cliche, I know. I’d love to have my career as an art teacher figured out. I could go on to list a bunch of things I want and how successful I wish to be. But the truth? All I want in life is to be happy. It doesn’t really matter when or where or why or even how. I just want to wake up one day and think to myself, I made it.
Who has been one person you’d like to thank for support, encouragement, love, etc.?
There are a lot of people I’d love to thank. Definitely my amazing mom. She helped me through so much, and even when I felt like everything was crumbling around me, she held me up and always believed in me. Knowing I had her support, I felt as if I could do anything. She always made me feel smart, even when my classes made me feel dumb. She made me feel loved when I felt really alone. To be honest, friends, relationships came and went. But my mom supported me through everything. And I’ll always always always love her for that. Secondly, I want to thank some of my best friends that have always supported me and had my back. Max, who I’ve known since elementary school. He’s like the annoying little brother I never asked for, but he means the world to me. He supports me through everything, and I love him a lot. Next Jayden, who I’ve really only gotten close to junior year, but we unknowingly also went to the same middle school. He gives the best advice and always knows how to make me laugh. Lastly, I want to thank my amazing boyfriend Dalton who always supported me, loved me, and cared for me. He’s my special person, and I love him to death.
