Buenos dias, estudiantes.
There are a couple of things you need to know moving forward. Your narrative poem is due tomorrow (Friday, April 5th) if you want to be considered for the field trip. It must be typed, which shouldn’t be news to you.
New Vocabulary Words
§Rant: a very loud and aggressive speech that is usually long and repetitive
§Prophetic: correctly predicting the future
§Mass: great quantity
§Centrifuge: a device that rotates rapidly to separate different substances
§Exploit: make full use of something for benefit
§Pratfall: a stupid and humiliating action
§Noncombustible: not able to burn
§Intellectual: a person with a highly developed capacity for thinking
§Breach: break through something
There will be a Vocabulary Quiz on Monday. It will include these nine new words PLUS dystopia (a society frightening in its implications).
Also, there will be a Fahrenheit 451 Test on Part One of the book (The Hearth and the Salamander). It will not include vocabulary, but will include the major concepts we have been discussing in class, particularly about how Bradbury creates a novel over 60 years ago that is incredibly similar to our own and frightening in its implications (basically everything we have been discussing in class since we returned from break). If we are able to finish the reading sooner rather than later, we will hopefully have time for a review session next Tuesday. [Thank you, Mr. Key]. You’re very welcome.
Fahrenheit 451 Homework
Write a short paragraph explaining what is prophetic about the book so far (i.e. what are the things that are similar to our own world). Notice how this will also be the major focus of our test and will in the long run help you prepare for it.
