WHSAD 11th Graders Visit the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum
On Wednesday, 01/11/17, Mr. Cornell, Mr. D'Amato, Ms. Weinstein and Mr. Bruno accompanied a group of WHSAD juniors to the Intrepid Sea, Air, and Space Museum at Pier 86 in Manhattan. The Intrepid is an American military and maritime history museum with a collection of ships, aircraft and related artifacts. While at the museum, students were treated to tours and performances educating the students about the ships and aircraft and the various action these vehicles have seen throughout United States history. WHSAD Students Featured in Dept. of Education LPP Newletter
As part of NYC Dept. of Education Chancellor Farinia's initiative to improve student achievement through the promotion of inter-school collaboration, WHSAD was chosen to be a host school for the Learning Partners Program (LPP). The staff and students of WHSAD will be hosting two other CTE schools in NYC in an effort to model and share best practices. As a result of this partnership, a group of WHSAD students decided to visit the LPP offices and offered to produce personalized desk plaques for the LPP team members using AutoCad and a laser engraver. BTG is Offering WHSAD’s Class of 2018 a Free SAT Prep Workshop in Spring 2017
Bridging the Gap (BTG) is offering an SAT prep course facilitated by Kaplan to 11th grade students. BTG is a public funded program at NYC College of Technology (City Tech). SAT Saturday Course (Spring 2017) Orientation and Pre-test: Feb 11, 2017 Program Runs every Saturday from 9:30 am - 12:30 pm between March 4th to April 29th. WHSAD 9th Grader Jonah Vasquez Reports on Recent Field Trip
On 11/29/16, Mr. Rodriguez and Mr. O'Brien accompanied a select group of WHSAD ninth graders to the historic World Diamond Tower. WHSAD Students Experience New Art Installation at Park Avenue Armory
On Thursday, December the 8th, the 90 selected seniors of Williamsburg High School for Architecture and Design traveled the intricate subway systems of Brooklyn and Manhattan to experience and art installation at the Park Avenue Armory. Manifesto was the culminating trip for the senior cohort that was led up to by four, in-class visitations of two of the Armory’s Resident Teaching Artists, Vicki Tanner and Neil Pritchard. Upon arriving to the Armory, the students were separated into five groups. WHSAD Students Participate in 25 Kent Street Groundbreaking
(Note - the following post was written by WHSAD student Patryk Pozarlik) My name is Patryk Pozarlik and I am a junior at WHSAD. I was afforded the opportunity to attend the ground breaking ceremony of the 25 Kent Street construction site. Along with site developer Toby Moskovitz, many of those involved gave speeches about the future benefits the new building will bring to Brooklyn. Everyone took photos as the VIP’s took the first scoop of the soil with a shovel, a tradition when an important groundbreaking event is undertaken. After the ceremony, my fellow students and I were invited to the new Williamsburg hotel for lunch and networking with some important people from the construction and architecture fields.
